Have you ever been in a public area, seen the emergency boxes with pads and a machine to use in a life threatening situation and wondered if you would ever know when the right time to use that was or how to use it correctly?
For many people who have little to no medical training, automated external defibrillators (AED) can be intimidating and may seem out of your ability to put to use. Therefore, you may plan to leave it to the first responders to use instead. However, you could actually become the first responder if somebody collapses in front of you and loses consciousness and their pulse. This is sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), and it requires immediate attention.
